Calling Hogs is a tradition of Arkansas University students, alumni and sports enthusiasts. The origin and date of first use is unknown. Cheering is the most famous cheers at the University.

The tradition is said to have started in 1920 when people tried to push the losing Razorback football team. The next home game results in a group that often repeats cheers.

Hog calls are not limited to Razorback Stadium, where it is used before every kickoff, and can be used locally such as airports and hotels where Razorback fans are united.

Procedures

Fans initiate a pig call with "Woo", which increases the volume and also includes raising the arm with the fingers swaying up and down. Razorback fans have stated that Woo must last eight seconds. Arms are dropped during "pigs" and hands are clenched. "Sooie" is accompanied by a boxing pump. After the third call, "Razorbacks" was added with two additional boxing pumps.

Etymology

Typical calls for the possibility of Latin-degraded forms, such as the Razorback, or wild boar, are members of the pig family, which in the classification system of Linnean (Latin) is Suidae. 'Sooie' is a call pig call in northeastern England, like 'Giss giss'.
