" Cheerleader " is a song recorded by Jamaican singer Omi. The song was written and produced by OMI and Clifton Dillon, Mark Bradford, and Ryan Dillon. OMI first began developing the song in 2008, when he created the melody. It was perfected for several years with the famous Jamaican producer, Clifton Dillon. It was first recorded with seasoned session musicians Sly and Robbie and Dean Fraser. Released as a single on the independent Oufah label, the song was a success in Jamaica, where it topped the charts, and also played in Hawaii and Dubai. OMI - stage name Omar Samuel Pasley - born in Clarendon parish, Jamaica. He grew up with American hip hop love, but grew more interested in melodies after listening to singers like John Legend, Nat King Cole, and Sam Cooke. He first developed "Cheerleader" in 2008, when he woke up humming the melody. "It feels like little Jamaican rhymes, like 'one, two, my shoe buckle,' that sort of thing - 'ring game' is what we call.The rest of the song just falls into place like a jigsaw puzzle", he recalled later. The following year, he was discovered by producer Clifton "Specialist" Dillon, an influential figure in the Jamaican music industry, who later became his manager and collaborator. He initially only wrote two verses for the song, imagining it as a distraction for an album. Dillon convinces him to make the third verse, and the song begins to take shape. The Jamaican Prolific rhythm, Sly and Robbie and veteran saxophonist Dean Fraser contributed to the original recording, first published in 2012 at Oufah, an independent label in Kingston.

The following April, Patrick Moxey, president of US electronic music label Ultra Music, found the song. According to Moxey, she was on vacation in Montreal when she first heard the song while listening to a radio promoter featuring popular songs in the Caribbean. Meanwhile, Salaam Remi, an American hip hop producer who has a trace on Sony, is also keen to bring the song to a wider audience. Ultra signed Pasley to a recording contract by the end of 2013. The remix version combines house beat with additional trumpet, bongos and "samba-like" piano parts. It also speeds up Pasley's original vocal tracks, and keeps many original rhythms from songs with digital instrumentation. Fraser saxophone is replaced with trumpet sample. These attributes are considered more suitable for international audiences. Its genre has been described as being representative of deep house, reggae fusion, and electro-ska.

The lyrics of this song centered on the penchant for the protagonist in finding "cheerleader" - a romantic friend who would be a support system for him, and "always there when I needed him." Though the lyrics of the song are closely related to romance, Pasley finds it immortal: "It speaks more than just another, it is dedicated to anyone who supports the system."

As the song begins to succeed worldwide, a new music video for Jaehn's remix is ​​assigned.
