The fifth season of the musical dramas series Fox Glee was commissioned on April 19, 2013, along with the sixth season. It airs on September 26, 2013, as part of the fall of 2013. After the winter break, it returns on February 25, 2014, moving to Tuesday night to finish the season. The second part of the season features the 100th episode of the series, the 12th episode of the season, which aired on March 18, 2014. It was shorter than the previous season, with twenty episodes instead of twenty-two.
The series features New Directions glee clubs at the fictitious William McKinley College (WMHS) in Lima, Ohio, and McKinley graduates who have moved to New York City, some to attend the New York Drama Art Academy of Dramatic Arts (NYADA). Unlike the previous season, the fifth continuing school year begins in the fourth season. The first half of the season follows clubs competing on the show choir circuit, while the rest of the season focuses on graduation and alumni life in New York City as members, faculty and alumni dealing with gay bashing, death, intimacy, STD, transphobia and other social issues. The main characters are joyous club director Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), cheerleading coach and principal Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), members of the elite club Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale), Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss), Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz ), Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) and graduate of Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), and Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera). The recurrent recurring characters are Jake Puckerman (Artist Jacob), Marley Rose (Melissa Benoist), Ryder Lynn (Blake Jenner), Wade "Unique" Adams (Alex Newell), and Kitty Wilde (Becca Tobin), who is currently a happy club member at WMHS , has been promoted to major players in the fifth season - although none of them appeared in the last trimester, seven episodes, this season, as the season moved its focus to the alumni. Production
Production this season will begin in mid-July, with shooting starting July 29, 2013. On July 18, 2013, it was announced that the event will last for two weeks while the authors and producers rewrite the storyline and imagine how to handle the death of Monteith's character Finn Hudson. On July 19, 2013, Glee announced via their official Facebook fan page that the season premiere will air on September 26, one week after the original date, and the filming will begin in early August. The season finally started firing on August 5, 2013, a week slower than originally planned, although studio recordings and costume equipment for the players started four days earlier.
On July 20, 2013, Ryan Murphy stated in an interview that the character of Monteith will die in the third episode of this season and episodes one and two will be the episode of tribute to The Beatles. Lea Michele, Monteith's girlfriend who also starred as Rachel Berry on the show, was involved in the decision. After the third episode is over, there's another hiatus while the creative team is reworking the rest of the season. The show returned after the baseball post ended, and aired five episodes in a row without interruption.
For the 100th episode of Glee , which is the twelfth episode of this season, a promotion called "Gleeks Choice" is run by Fox in late November 2013 to allow fans to choose ten songs from a thirty list done in episodes the last of the series. Ten songs that receive the most votes will be featured in this episode. The list of thirteen songs that was finally released in late February 2014 for episode 100 part two contains eight songs from a list of thirty original songs instead of ten.
On March 17, 2014, it was revealed that Chris Colfer will be writing the episode later this season. He later revealed that he would be writing the nineteenth episode of this season.

Fox credits fourteen major players for the season: Matthew Morrison as the club director of excited Will Schuester; Jane Lynch as cheerleader Sue Sylvester; Chris Colfer, Lea Michele and Naya Rivera as McKinley graduates and ex-happy club members Kurt Hummel, Rachel Berry and Santana Lopez, respectively; and Jacob Artist, Melissa Benoist, Darren Criss, Blake Jenner, Kevin McHale, Alex Newell, Chord Overstreet, Becca Tobin and Jenna Ushkowitz as members of today's excited club Jake Puckerman, Marley Rose, Blaine Anderson, Ryder Lynn, Artie Abrams, Wade " Unique "Adams, Sam Evans, Kitty Wilde and Tina Cohen-Chang, respectively. Ratings
Measurement of day plus audiences (DVR) life continues to decline, relative to the previous season. When season 4 sees the first viewer number below 6 million for the episode, season 5 sees the first audience dropping below 2 million episodes.
