Pat Patriot , commonly called "Pat The Patriot," is the New England Patriots mascot, a National Football League (NFL) league based in Foxborough, Massachusetts. He is portrayed as an American Revolutionary soldier with his wife, Patty Patriot. Pat's logo version wears a tricorne hat and Continental continental uniform. This was the official emblem of the Patriots until 1993, when it was replaced by the current logo known as "Flying Elvis". Pat's logo was made by Worcester Telegram - Evening Gazette cartoonist Phil Bissell in 1960.

1979 consideration of new logo
In 1979 the Patriots were considered replacing Pat Patriot with a new logo, mainly because Pat Patriot is very detailed and therefore difficult to replicate accurately on various promotional and merchandise materials. Not sure if this would be a good decision for the team, executives decided to let fans choose the logo they liked during the half-time matches of a Patriot's home. Pat Patriot is an outstanding winner.

Development of a live mascot
Pat's live mascot was originally developed in the early 1990s and made one of his first public appearances in the 1995 Pro Bowl as the NFL Hero Team. The NFL Heroes team is a mask-like character line developed by NFL Properties; most of the characters lasted only one or two seasons but a handful was eventually adopted as the official mascot by their respective teams, either as soon as the Team NFL Heroes project was canceled or years later with Pat being an example of the former. The Pat mascot we know today was intended initially to be a completely different character from Pat Patriot's logo; this is supported by the fact that Pat's name is listed as "Revere" (references to Paul Revere) on Team NFL Heroes items.
Design of the direct mascot character
Pat's Pat was wearing a Patriot home uniform consisting of a navy blue shirt, number 1, with silver trousers or a distant uniform consisting of a white shirt, number 1, with dark blue pants. What uniforms Pat's clothes wear depends on which uniform the team is wearing in the game. Pat had previously used a 0 back number until a fan approached team owner Robert Kraft and asked if the number could be changed. This interaction is captured by NFL Films and shown on television.

Pat has represented the Patriots as the team's direct mascot in nine out of ten Super Bowl teams have appeared on: XXXI, XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLII, XLVI, XLIX, LI and LII.

From 2009 to 2016 people in Pat's life mascot costume are Adam Visbaras. From 2012 to 2014 second direct mascot players are added for special games and events played by Matthew Hamilton, Patriots Cheerleader cousin Kathryn Hamilton.
