Literary Criticism
While the series' Horror Point did not attract much serious attention, Gillian Avery noted that the series was "always structured around the opposition" in a teen horror novel "not" ending the opposition between the real. and the imaginary 'but, on the contrary, confirms the difference. Roy Fisher writes that this series embodies and represents "the fear and anxiety of young people about their lives in general and about schools in particular". Others noted the similarity of this series with Stephen King, saying that there is "little difference between approach and design... other than length".
Will Davis of The Guardian attributes the series decline to a higher standard of adolescent readership and lack of real-life issues.
The series has received negative criticism for its role as a female character. Mary Hilton writes in her book Fiction that many young readers see female characters as "annoyed, killed, or thrown out".
