In 2013, different ways to draft a panel of judges were created. A single judge is assigned to every element in cheerleading criteria. For dance criteria, four judges are given the task of assessing this specific criteria.
Criteria
Criteria for judging vary from year to year. In 2008, the criteria were changed to a more cheerful cheer point system, providing maximum scores for each cheerleading element and/or dancing. For the 2013 edition, the criteria are divided into two: the cheerleading and dance criteria. Cheerleading criteria are divided into four elements (falls, actions, throws, and pyramids) with a maximum of 100 points for each element, while the dance criterion, which has a maximum of 100 points per number of judges for dancing, is subdivided. into four sub-criteria (effectiveness, choreography, engineering, and execution) as a whole.

Controversy
Questions were raised on the results of the 2015 Cheerdance Competition after NU Pep Squad won despite several mistakes including falling on their elevators and pyramids. This is different from UP runner-up and UST running clean programs. The UAAP community in social media is furious especially because of their unbelief of ratings and allegations of bias and corruption. NU claims that their stunts have a higher level of difficulty compared to other teams. Because of this, UP filed a formal complaint for cases detailing some of the assessment inaccuracies but remained unresolved with UAAP officials. In response to unresolved issues and focus on international competition, UP Pep Squad decided to pass the 2016 competition.
