The 1986 Philadelphia Eagles season is their 54th in the league. The team can not improve the previous wins out of a total of seven. Instead, the team finished with five wins, ten losses and one draw. This is the fifth consecutive season in which the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The season was Buddy Ryan's first coach with the team after serving as the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Chicago Bears, the team that won the Super Bowl in 1985.
The quarterback's task is shared between 35-year-old veteran Ron Jaworski (who started nine games in his last season with the team) and second-year quarterback Randall Cunningham. Quarterback veteran Matt Cavanaugh also started two matches. The Eagles' past the fighting game, with the third meter at least passing in the league (2540), and at least a meter per attempt (4.1).
The Eagles set up dubious NFL records by handing out a number of sack notes (an existing NFL record of 104) and the size of the yard allowed on the sack (708). No other team in football history ever handed over 78 sacks or 554 yards in a quarterback sack. The team handed over three or more sacks in every game in the 1986 season, the only team in NFL history to do so.
The single season spotlight came on the road. On October 5, Birds entered Fulton County Stadium and closed the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons, 16-0. then earned a 33-27 RO victory back against the Raiders at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on 30 November, the Eagles' first victory over the club since the 1980 season and his first win on the road against the Oakland/LA franchise.
