Brittany Susan Pierce is a fictional character from the musical comedy-drama series Fox Glee . The character is described by actress Heather Morris, and first appeared on the show's second episode, "Showmance". Brittany was developed by Glee creator Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan. In Glee , Brittany is a cheerleader, or "Cheerio" for fictitious William McKinley College, and a school happy club member led by Will Schuester. Morris was originally hired to teach the dance "Single Ladies" BeyoncÃÆ'à © to the Glee cast. The show was looking for a third cheerleader, and Morris landed his role. Morris was upgraded to a regular series in the series' second season, where Brittany was given a larger storyline, solo and dance routine to perform.
Morris plays Brittany as "utterly crazy", but also fully intended to be kind and kind. He has said that Brittany "loves [s] everyone, no matter who they are"; he often smiles and behaves well to others. The character traits of Brittany including his discovery recipe are confusing, deceiving classmates who are mentally handicapped, thinking his cat, Lord Tubbington, is reading his diary, and not knowing his right hand from his left. These facts are often presented in a single-liners delivered by Morris, many of whom he has ad-libbed. Brittany's one-liners are regularly celebrated in the Glee review. Lack of character intelligence and frank speech means, as Morris says, that "Brittany is used by series writers to say things that other characters lack." The character has also received positive reviews related to his romantic storyline with his close friend, Santana (Naya Rivera). While Brittany is bisexual, and not ashamed, Santana has trouble accepting his lesbianism. Brittany continues to support Santana and urges her to be honest on herself.
The characters have been well received with television critics. Jarrett Wieselman of the New York Post has compared Morris as Brittany with Lynch as Sue, and argues that he has "emerged as one of the funniest bananas on TV today". Wieselman writes that since its introduction, Brittany has been given "more and more to do [and] less and less to think," and that the result is "one of the most unfamiliar characters who ever found a way to dress themselves in the morning." Snarker referred to Brittany and Santana as "Glee's new favorite couple", and commented: "While Heather Morris (Brittany) and Naya Rivera (Santana) have minimal screen time, they have counted it. laughter because Cheerio at least gets Mensa invitations. "Brittany has drawn a comparison with the character of Amanda Seyfried from the 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls . Morris also received praise for his dance and his role as Brittany.

She took acting classes and actively pursued an acting career when she was offered a place on the recording artist BeyoncÃÆ' © Knowles toured the world as a dancer. Morris, however, refused the work. Shortly after that, he was asked by Zach Woodlee's choreographer Glee Zach Woodlee to teach dance choreography "Single Ladies" BeyoncÃÆ' à © to Glee Glee Glee Glee > actors. At the same time, the show was looking for a third cheerleader, they originally wanted to have a third being African American, but Morris finally landed the role of Brittany Pierce. Initially a background character that hardly ever speaks, the growing role as the author finds Morris having the gift of delivering one sentence. In an interview with Brandon Voss from The Advocate.com , Morris said of his casting:
"About six months after I first moved to LA, I got a job doing a Beyoncà © tour. After I finished the tour, I started working with choreographer Zach Woodlee, who started hiring me to do things like Fired! and Eli Stone Before the Single Ladies tour I was supposed to move to New York to do West Side Story, but then I stopped dancing and started acting classes because I did not want to dancing again and I really want to fulfill my lifelong acting dream.Zach called me and said, 'Are you in New York?' I'm like, 'No, I'm still here in L.A. and I'm acting.' She's like, 'OK, I want you to come and teach the dance "Single Woman" to Chris Colfer and Jenna Ushkowitz for this TV show I'm doing, Glee.Because you act now, I know Ryan Murphy will be happy to consider you for the part. Looks as sweet as possible so he will love you more. "So I went in to teach the children in full clothes. I was scheduled to read with Ryan Murphy twice, but he canceled both. After that, Zach called me and said they probably would not hire me because they wanted the third cheerleader to be black, so my hopes were shot. But then my agent called a week later and said, 'You are now selected as Brittany in Glee.' So that's crazy. "
Brittany's role in the show originally meant to be small, but grew towards the end of the first season. He did not have solo music performances during the first season, but Morris hopes he will have one in the second season. On April 27, 2010, Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly reported that Morris will be upgraded to a regular series for season two. Talk to E! ' " In 2010 TV Critic Association of the Summer Press Tour, Murphy states that Brittany will have a "big storyline" in the new season, because viewers want to know more about it.
Characterization
Some of Brittany's most impressive lines are devoid of manuscripts, and otherwise designed by Murphy during the filming, or improvisations by Morris. Morris describes Brittany as "absolutely insane." He is used by series writers to say things that no other characters, to the point that Morris considers some of his sentences unreasonable. The characteristics of the Brittany character including his recipe of discovery are confusing, deceiving intellectually disabled classmates, thinking his cat is reading his diary, and not knowing his right hand from his left hand. He is friendly to all other characters, and Morris has explained that Brittany "loves [s] everyone, no matter who they are", so he often smiles and behaves well to people. Morris based his role as Brittany on the character of Karen Smith from the Mean Girls film. He plays Brittany as a very innocent man, not a fool. In the episode "A Night of Neglect", Brittany participates in academic galleries as a warm seat, but surprisingly ultimately contributes to the victory due to the fact that he is an idiot in the topic of cat sickness. It is also revealed in "Britney/Brittany" that Brittany is also "Britney Spears" as her middle initial is "S" which makes her "Brittany S. Pierce."
At the Paley Festival Glee panel in March 2010, Murphy stated that Brittany and Santana will be seen to perform during the first season of the show. Morris and Rivera just became aware of this after reading the Paley Festival report online. When they asked Murphy about his progress, he claimed to have made a statement "to get a kick" out of the "dirty guy" who asked about them. Murphy told Morris and Rivera that Glee will not encourage relationships to meet the demands of the show's fans, but will only pursue those who are "organic and natural." Though there are moments on the show depicting Brittany and Santana as being very close to each other, Morris connects this with his close relationship with Rivera: "it's just Naya and I joking with each other and getting very close." Always he and I just screwed up and finally use it. "
Then in 2010, when interviewed by After Ellen and discussing Glee's large lesbian audience, Ryan Murphy insists that the second season will contain at least one kiss between Brittany and Santana. In January 2011, a few months after Brittany and Santana were spotted in bed together, co-creator Glee Brad Falchuk further confirmed that "Brittana is active." Brittana is always active.

Critical reception
Jarrett Wieselman of the New York Post has compared Morris as Brittany to Lynch as Sue, and notes that he has "emerged as one of the funniest bananas on TV today". Wieselman writes that since its introduction, Brittany has been given "more and more to do [and] less and less to think," and that the result is "one of the most unfamiliar characters who ever found a way to dress themselves in the morning." E! Online Megan Masters also compares Brittany with Sue, and states that Brittany's one-line "easily rivals" Sue's. He considered Brittany "brilliantly brilliant", and thanked Glee's creators for creating it: "Never before have we had the pleasure of enjoying such a stupid - yet always loved - character on television." When a promotional clip for the "Sectionals" episode showed that Brittany and Santana had slept together, Dorothy Snarker, while writing for the lesion entertainment website AfterEllen.com, praised the couple and called it by portmanteau "Brittana". Snarker calls them "Glee's new favorite pair", and comments: "While Heather Morris (Brittany) and Naya Rivera (Santana) have minimal screen time, they've counted it." Heather in particular has brought laughter because Cheerio will at least get Mensa's invitation. Not be concerned about Finn and Rachel - I'm at Tim Brittana right now. "
Morris's appearance in Britney/Brittany drew critical acclaim; Lisa de Moraes called "Britney/Brittany" a "big show" for the actress, and praised the "spectacular dance moves" and "lethal flare". In his negative review, Todd VanDerWerff considers Morris "hysterical throughout" and the player's best dancer. He stated, "Murphy seems intent on running this character to the ground, but Morris will not stop him being cute without a fight." Jenna Mullins from E! Online observes, "When Ryan Murphy says this episode is a celebration of Heather, he's not kidding", and praised his musical performances. Robert Canning of IGN initially worried that the episode would diminish Morris's appeal by lifting him from a background role, but was ultimately pleased that it managed to retain the status of his fan favorite "favorite character". While Poniewozik asks "have we reached the point of being a society where it's mediocre that the most popular TV shows are in the 18-49 demographics as well - almost without comment or controversy - the gayest show on broadcast TV?", Ann Oldenburg from USA Today questioned whether Glee had gone too far with a description of Brittany and Santana kissing and their reference to a so-called "scissoring" sexual act. Christie Keith, in writing for the lesE and bisexual website AfterEllen.com, suggested that "Duets" was "the weirdest episode of any series ever on television", and stated that she shed tears by the last scene of sad Brittany without Santana. AfterEllen.com also listed it in 50 Top Favorite TV Female Characters.
Robert Canning praised Morris for his performance in "A Very Glee Christmas", and writes: "The Heart of" A Very Glee Christmas "was found in Artie Abrams to keep Brittany's belief in Santa Claus live Heather Morris perfectly plays Brittany's innocence and joy around everything Santa, his interaction with the black mall of Santa is the spotlight Watching Artie, and finally the whole club, working to keep Brittany's faith intact in the spirit of Christmas and should be made into a more complete part of the episode Also glowing in this storyline is Dot Jones as Bieste Coach. The scene as Santa, and then the expression of his influence as he sees Artie walking, is the best moments of the episode. "In January 2010, Morris and his co-stars won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Extraordinary Performance by Ensemble in The Comedy Series Later that year, Brittany and Santana were nominated for the " Favorite Fictional Lesbian Couple "in AfterEllen. com Visibility Awards.
