Southern California Chinese History Society ( CHSSC , traditional Chinese: ????????? ; Chinese which is simplified: ????????? ; pinyin: NÃÆ'¡n Ji? zh ? u HuÃÆ'¡rÃÆ' Â © n LÃÆ'shsh? XuÃÆ' Â © huÃÆ'¬ ) is located in Los Angeles Chinatown, at 415 Bernard Street. Chinatown Heritage & amp; The Visitor Center is open to the public. It was started by Paul Louie, William Mason, and Paul De Falla, with an organizing meeting held at Cathay Bank on November 1, 1975.
His mission, as stated on his website, is as follows:
- To unite people with common interests in the history of importance and the historical role of Chinese and Chinese Americans in Southern California;
- To pursue, preserve and communicate knowledge about this history; and
- To promote the heritage of Chinese and Chinese American communities to support a better appreciation of our rich and multicultural society.
CHSSC is one of the most active historical societies in Southern California. There are monthly meetings, field trips, archives and library collections, oral history projects, scholarships, and publications.
