Holloway has a strong desire for his daughter, Shanna, to become a cheerleader. In 1991, when Shanna almost got out somewhere in her junior squad, Holloway asked former brother-in-law Terry Harper to hire a hitman to kill Verna Heath, the mother of a 14-year-old girl who had defeated him into the squad. Holloway believes that Heath's daughter will be so devastated by the death of his mother that he will come out of the cheerleader team, thereby giving Shanna a place.
However, unknown to Holloway, Harper went straight to the police after Holloway approached him; he was arrested the next day.

First trial
The key evidence in the case for prosecution, led by Mike Anderson, took to the tapes provided by Terry Harper along with his testimony. This tape reveals Holloway's words that offer his diamond earrings instead of never seeing Verna Heath in Channelview again. Defense counsel, Troy McKinney, argues that Holloway's ex-husband, Tony Harper, conspired with his brother to trap Holloway. McKinney appointed a divorce between Tony Harper and Wanda Holloway in 1980 and a custody battle over their children.
Holloway was found guilty of a mass murder in the 1991 trial and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. However, the conviction was dropped when one of the juries was on probation for a drug-related crime and should never be allowed to serve the jury; lie has been announced.
Second experiment
Holloway hired a new defense attorney, Jack Zimmerman. This time Wanda Holloway confessed the crime, pleading "no contest" ( nolo contendere), and Zimmerman successfully negotiated a defense deal for Holloway.
On September 9, 1996, state district court judge, George Godwin, sentenced Holloway to ten years in prison, with a $ 10,000 fine. On top of all this, Holloway set a civil suit filed by the Heath family. On October 2, 1994, Holloway agreed to pay a total of $ 150,000 to the victims. It was decided in court that $ 70,000 would be given to Verna and her husband, $ 30,000 to Verna's children, and $ 50,000 to cover the legal costs of the case.
Initial release
Holloway was released on March 1, 1997 after serving six months of his sentence. The judge ordered him to live the remaining 9.5 years on probation, and to complete 1,000 hours of community service.
