Tradition

Nickname

Eagles is the third nickname of Georgia Southern University. From 1924 to 1941, his nickname was Blue Tide. After World War II, the athletics team was called Professor, because the school was a teacher school. However, in 1959, when the school was renamed Georgia Southern College, a student ballot was held to determine a new mascot. The eagle is selected over the Colonel with a narrow margin.

Uniform plain

When the football program was revived in 1982, the school did not have big budgets and coach Erk Russell ordered a solid blue helmet and asked the players to put a white ribbon in the middle. The uniforms consisted of plain white pants and an anonymous blue shirt. With the success of the next Eagles, the basic design of the simple uniform remains the same.
