The MapÃÆ'ºa Cardinals holds the NCAA record for most of the General Championships in the senior division with a total of 20 - the last of these championships was won in 1993. On the distant second is Colegio de San Juan de Letran which has 8 senior titles.
Of the total Senior GC won by the Cardinals, 10 were withdrawn from the 1980s to the mid-1990s in addition to 3 (out of 8 total) in the junior division during the same period, a testament to the venerable leadership of Valerio legend "Amang" Lopez as Director of Athletic.

The Cardinal in the name of Mapua Cardinals was adopted from the American baseball team, St. Louis Cardinals Don Tomas MapÃÆ'ºa, founder of the Mapba Technology Institute is a huge fan. The Juniors team (high school) adopted the moniker, Red Robins.

The MapÃÆ'ºa Cardinals have won the NCAA Seniors Championship five times (in 1949, 1965, 1981, and back-to-back titles from 1991-92 to 1992-93). The MIT basketball team has the distinction of producing an alumni player who has won the Most Valuable Player award in the Philippines Professional Basketball Association (PBA) for most years. Freddie Hubalde and Fortunato's legendary "Atoy" Co. won this award respectively once in 1977 and 1979, respectively, while Alvin Patrimonio. has won it four times, in 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1997. All three players are members of the 25 Biggest All-Time PBA Players.
The MapÃÆ'ºa Red Robins , on the other hand has won 18 NCAA championships, the latter won during the 2000 season. As a testament to his outstanding performance in the NCAA junior division, Red Robins has the distinction of winning a five-year rare championship starting from 1968 to 1972. On October 14, 2016, the red team Malaya Red Robins, MapÃÆ'ºa currently, won their first junior NCAA basketball championship, ending a seven-year title of San Beda Red Cubs.

Track and place
Another sport where Mapua Cardinals and Red Robins have shown their dominance in the NCAA is on track and field. Prior to 1953, running and running and field events were counted separately even though the Mapuan athletes had demonstrated victory traditions. Since 1953 when the show was inaugurated, MIT has won a total of 25 titles in the senior division and 6 in the junior division. Ateneo de Manila followed at a second distance with 17 junior and 6 senior titles.

- Claro Pellosis - Member of the 1936 Olympic team for track and field.
- Simeon Toribio - Member of the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympic teams; Olympic Bronze Medalist in a high jump event at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics; winner of the Asian Games gold medal and recipient of the 1930 World Cup Helms to become the greatest athlete in Asia. - Miguel White - Member of the 1936 Olympic team; Olympic Bronze Medalist in the 400m hurdles at the 1936 Berlin Olympics [5]
- Rodelio Santos - Member of track and field of MIT 1982-1984. The first winner of five golds in the NCAA for MIT Red Robins in the long jump, double jump, 400m hurdles, 4x400 relay, and 4x100 relay under Coach Claro Pellosis
- Ruben Nieva - (BSME) Member of the MIT track and field 1979-1983. Gold medals in 4x100 and 4x400 relays, Bronze on 100m throws and javelin and bronze throws in 4x400 relay as NCAA selection members during the NCR (1979) annual competition coached by Claro Pellosis. Team captain 1983 NCAA Track and Field Champion.

The MapÃÆ'ºa Institute of Technology has also shown remarkable performance in other sports.
- Swim
For example, MapÃÆ'ºa's senior swimming team, trained for years by Prof. Edilberto Bonus, has won no fewer than 40 titles in the senior division and 22 in the junior. This record is clearly dominated only followed by San Beda College with 21 championships in the junior division but only 8 degrees in senior events. The last MIT tankers won the senior crown in 1997 while the last junior title was won in 1991.
Prof. Bonus, a remarkable Mapuan, was himself a prominent swimmer after winning the Bronze Medal at the first Asian Games held in New Delhi, India in 1951. Until his retirement, he was a professor admired in Mathematics and Physical Education at the Institute. She has also served as President of the Amateur Pools Association of the Philippines for several years.
- Chess
The MIT chess team has produced the likes of Eugene Torre, Asia's first grandmaster and International Master Renato Naranja, both representing the country in the 1972 Chess Games. In addition, International Masters Ildefonso Datu and several National Masters include Ernesto Encarnacion Jr. and Julius Joseph De Ramos also honed their skills with the chess senior team. Mapua has won a total of 11 NCAA Chess titles in the senior division, the last in 2002, and 6 NCAA junior titles although the latter was in 1996.
- Tennis
MIT led the NCAA with 16 seniors and 17 junior titles followed by San Beda with 11 seniors and 14 junior championships. Mapua's tennis players include former Philippine and Southeast Asian number one Manuel Tolentino who represented the country in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The last Mapua won the senior title in 1994 and juniors in 1997.
- Football
Behind La Salle and San Beda, MapÃÆ'ºa has the third best winning record in football with 7 junior titles and 12 senior titles. MIT's soccer team has produced several players who have played for the Philippine national football team in international competitions.
- Taekwondo
It was founded in 1986 by former Philippine team members and silver medalist of the 14th Asian Games silver medalist Joal Pamintuan (BSME). Pamintuan is part of the Philippine contingent at the SEA Games which consists of other famous genie such as: Arnold Baradi, Stephen Fernandez, Monsour Del Rosario, Ernie Roque, Jobet Morales, and Bobby Vargas. Pamintuan is also a member of the Taekwondo Taekwondo Taekwondo Taekwondo Association of Taekwondo 5. The first group of jeans formed in 1986, Mapua Taekwondo Association (MITTA) and recognized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association. MITTA officially represents Mapua at various interschools and national championships starting in 1986 where he saw competitive action for the first time at The 1986 National Taekwonwondo Championships. His best performance was at the 1989 Interschool Championship where he downed two teams: Mapua Gold and Mapua Red. Mapua Gold won a bronze medal when beating the Gray team from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in the quarterfinals. The founding members of MITTA are: Emman Arquelada (BSCE/BSEnSE), Ray Arquelada (BSAR), Egie Paredes (BSECE), Gilbert Apolonia (BSAR), Jay Pamintuan (BSEE), who is also a member of TBB batch 8, Tang Manwai (BSECE) Gilbert Dy (BSME), Richard Tan (BSCE), among others. It was dissolved in 1992 when most of its members have graduated, including Joal Pamintuan. Taekwondo is taught again at school after being acquired by The Yuchengco Group and is currently developing players to represent schools. It is handled by Noel Almaida, a former member of the Taekwondo Philippines Demo Team and an active member of the Ikhwanwondo BlackBelter Elite Elite (TBB).

The MIT Cheerping Cardinals
The MapÃÆ'ºa Cheerleading Association was known informally as the Cheerping Cardinals won the first NCAA cheerancing competition held in 2004. Since then, they have continued to show competitive performances, including the finish runners-up in the 2007 competition in which they lost in the help team of Perpetual University Assistance by one point.
