NFL Cheerleader Playoffs is a television show that debuted in 2006 on the NFL Network. The official National Football League channel airs every episode on Saturday at 3 pm. Eastern Time (ET).

The competition is produced by IMG television production division. Matt Gallant is the host, and Ian Eagle, Chad Johnson, and Carrie Milbank are journalists.

Playoffs were recorded between July 17 and July 21, 2006 at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. The two-person cheerleader team of 25 of the 32 NFL teams participated in four series of competitions.

The first two events test the athletic ability of cheerleaders in events such as a 100 meter run, kayaking, tandem biking, and obstacles. The third event is a trivia challenge called "Know Your NFL". The final competition is a one-minute dance routine, similar to what they usually do in the NFL.

There are six first-round episodes, five with four teams and one with five. The top two teams from each show (based on the points system below) advance to the second round. Three winners moved into the third round, with the top two teams facing each other in the final. Each cheerleading team member receives $ 5,000 in cash and a Nautilus training machine, made by Bowflex.

Not participating

Schedule changes

The premiere of episode 6, scheduled for October 19, was postponed because NFL Network added a fifth NFL Replay from the previous weekend, a Bears victory over the Cardinals. It aired the following Saturday. It is assumed that regular schedules will continue next week; However, the NFLN soon announced that a move to Saturday would be permanent. The NFLN aired the fifth NFL Replay race on Thursday night, either the fifth game or re-broadcast one of four previous aircasts from Tuesday or Wednesday, until November 23, when the match instantly took over the time slot.

Other notes

  • This program resembles other IMG multi-event events like Supreme and Star Gridiron Battles . One significant difference is that cheerleaders sometimes make comments in the recognition room, similar to those found on many reality TV shows.
  • The jury for dance competition is Johnson, choreographer Cris Judd, and former NFL cheerleader and current actress/model Bonnie-Jill Laflin. (On episodes 5 and 7, Milbank replaces Johnson as a judge because the Bengals, played by Johnson as wide receiver, compete.)
  • Most of the songs used for dance routines are provided by Astralwerks, a major electronic music label. Artists who signed contracts with Astralwerks include Fatboy Slim, Gorillaz, and Basement Jaxx. Other songs come from Virgin Records and Sony BMG.
  • In the second round, the "Know Your NFL" round resembles the Pyramid series of the game show. Dance in the same round follows the 20-20-20 format; one of the team members danced themselves for 20 seconds, then the other members danced themselves for the next 20 seconds, then both danced together for the last segment.
  • In the final round, "Know your NFL" is based on another classic game show, Concentration . The last dance in which all the teams competed was the song "19-2000" by Gorillaz. The song is also the theme song of the whole series.
