Seahawks is owned by Paul Allen and is currently trained by Pete Carroll. Since 2002, Seahawks have played their home game at CenturyLink Field (formerly Qwest Field), located south of downtown Seattle. The Seahawks previously played home games at Kingdome (1976-1999) and Husky Stadium (1994, 2000-2001).

The Seahawks is the only NFL franchise based in the Northwest Pacific North America, and thus attracts support from a wide geographical region, including parts of Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Alaska, as well as Canadian fans in British Columbia and Alberta.

Seahawks fans have been referred to collectively as "12 Man", "Fan 12", or "12". Seahawks' fans have twice set the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd at the sporting event, first on 15 September 2013, registering 136.6 dB during the game against the San Francisco 49ers and again on December 2, 2013, during i> Monday Night Football game against New Orleans Saints, then record 137.6dB.

Franchise history

1976-1982: Expansion era

In accordance with one of the agreed parts of the AFL-NFL incorporation of 1970, the NFL began planning to expand from 26 to 28 teams. In June 1972, Seattle Professional Football Inc., a group of business and community leaders Seattle, announced its intention to acquire the NFL franchise for the city of Seattle. In June 1974, the NFL gave this city a franchise expansion. In December, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle announced the official signing of the franchise agreement by Lloyd W. Nordstrom, representing the Nordstrom family as the majority partner for the consortium.

In March 1975, John Thompson, former Executive Director of the NFL Management Board and former Washington Huskies executive, was hired as general manager of the new team. The name Seattle Seahawks ("Seahawk" is another name for Osprey) was chosen on June 17, 1975 after a public naming contest that drew more than 20,000 entries and over 1,700 names.

Thompson recruited and hired Jack Patera, assistant coach of Minnesota Vikings, to become the first head coach of the Seahawks; recruitment was announced on January 3, 1976. The expansion design was held March 30-31, 1976, with Seattle and Tampa Bay Buccaneers alternating options for the round by selecting unprotected players from 26 other teams in the league. The Seahawks were awarded a 2nd overall pick in the 1976 draft, their pick used on Steve Niehaus's defensive tackle. The team took the field for the first time on 1 August 1976 in a pre-season game against the San Francisco 49ers in the newly built Kingdome.

The Seahawks are the only NFL team to switch conferences twice in the post-merger era. The franchise began playing in 1976 in the previously mentioned Western NFC but switched conferences with Buccaneers after a season and joined AFC West. The rearrangement was dictated by the league as part of the 1976 expansion plan, so both expansion teams could play each other twice and every other NFL franchise once (at their conference at the time) during their first two seasons. The Seahawks won both battles against Buccaneers in their first two seasons, the first of which was Seahawks' first regular season victory.

1983-1991: Chuck Knox era

In 1983, Seahawks hired Chuck Knox as head coach. Completed with a 9-7 record, Seahawks made their first post-season appearance, defeating the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card Round, and then Miami Dolphins, before losing the AFC Championship to the Los Angeles Raiders. The following season, Seahawks had their best season before 2005, finishing 12-4. Knox won the NFL Coach of the Year Award.

In 1988, Ken Behring and partner Ken Hofmann bought a team for $ 79 million or $ 99 million (both figures have been reported). Seahawks won their first division title in 1988, but from 1989 to 1998 had a bad record; Their best record in that span came in 1990, when the team finished 9-7, and the lowest point came in 1992 when the team finished with the worst record in team history, 2-14.

1990s

In 1996, Behring and Hoffman transferred team operations to Anaheim, California, a move widely criticized, although the team continued to play in Seattle. The team is almost relocated, and in bankruptcy for a short time. The NFL threatens Behring with a $ 500,000 fine per day if he does not move the team's operations back to Seattle; with this, Behring and Hoffman sold the team to Microsoft founder Paul Allen in 1997, for $ 200 million, and in 1999 Mike Holmgren was hired as head coach. He will train for 10 seasons. The Seahawks won their second division title, as well as a wild card place in the playoffs.

1999-2008: Mike Holmgren Era

In 2002, Seahawks returned to NFC West as part of an NFL rearrangement plan that gave each of four balanced division conferences from four teams each. This rearrangement returns AFC West to the first post-merger list of the original AFL teams of Denver, San Diego, Kansas City, and Oakland.

In the 2005 season, Seahawks had the best season in franchise history (a feat that would be matched in 2013) with a 13-3 record, which included a 42-0 Philadelphia Eagles victory on December 5, a game since it was called the Monday Night Massacre. The 13-3 record earned them the first seed in the NFC. They won the NFC Game Championship in 2005, but lost in Super Bowl XL against Pittsburgh Steelers. The loss is controversial; NFL Films has Super Bowl XL at number 8 on the top ten list of games with controversial referee calls. Referee Bill Leavy later admitted that he missed the call that changed the game. Before 2005, Seattle had the longest losing playoff victory of any NFL team, dating back to the 1984 season. The drought ended with a 20-10 victory over the Washington Redskins in the playoffs of 2005.

2009: Jim Mora's single season

In the 2009 NFL season, Seahawks took third place at NFC West with a 5-11 record. Shortly after his first full season with Seahawks, head coach Jim L. Mora was sacked on January 8, 2010. Mora was replaced by former USC Trojans football head coach, Pete Carroll. Shortly thereafter, Mora became head coach for the UCLA Bruins football team.

2010-present: Era Pete Carroll

In the 2010 NFL season, Seahawks made history by going into the playoffs despite having a 7-9 record. They have the best record in a division full of teams with losing seasons (Seahawks 7-9, Rams 7-9, 49ers 6-10, Cardinals 5-11) and winning a decisive season finale against the Rams (not only with the overall record, but with division records, as both teams that enter the game have a 3-2 share record). In the playoffs, Seahawks won their first game against Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints 41-36. The Seahawks made more history during the game with a 67-yard run of Marshawn Lynch, breaking 7 or more tackles, to clinch victory. Once executed, the fans react so loudly that a small earthquake (slightly above 2 on the Richter Scale) is recorded by seismic equipment around Seattle. The Seahawks lost to the Bears in their second game, 35-24.

The 2012 NFL season begins with doubts, as Seahawks lose their season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, after Seattle's highly-heralded defense surrendered a go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter, and Russell Wilson's rookie quarterback failed to throw a game-winning touchdown after several attempts at red zone. However, Russell Wilson and Seahawks went 4-1 in the next five games on the way to an 11-5 overall record (their first winning record since 2007). Their 2012 campaign included major victories over the Green Bay Packers, the New England Patriots, and the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks went into the playoffs as the # 5 seed and the only team that season to go unbeaten at home. In the Wild Card Round, Seahawks overcame a 14-point deficit to beat the Washington Redskins. It was the first time since the 1983 Divisional Round that the Seahawks won a playoff game on the road. However, in the 2012 Division Round, overcoming a 20-point deficit, the fourth quarter will not be enough to beat the # 1 Atlanta Falcons. Improper deadlines and defensive damage at the end of the game cause Seahawks their season, as they lose, 30-28. QB Russell Wilson won the Pepsi Max Rookie of the Year 2012 award.

2013: First Super Bowl Championship

In the NFL season of 2013, Seahawks continued their momentum from the previous season, finishing tied with the Denver Broncos for the best regular season record of NFL 13-3, while earning the # 1 NFC playoff seed. Their 2013 campaign included major wins over the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers. Six Seahawks are named Pro Bowl: Russell Wilson's Quarterback, Max Unger center, running back Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman cornerback, free safety Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor's strong safety. However, none of them were able to play in the Pro Bowl, as Seahawks defeated New Orleans Saints 23-15 and San Francisco 49ers 23-17, in the playoffs to advance to the Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos. On 2 February 2014, Seahawks won their first Super Bowl Championship, beating Denver 43-8. The performance of the Seahawks defense in 2013 is recognized as one of the best in the Super Bowl era.

The following season, Seattle advanced to the Super Bowl XLIX, the second Super Bowl in a row, but they were stripped of their title by the New England Patriots by a score of 28-24.

They started off with a slow start the following year from 0-2 and 2-4 to 6 matches but finished 10-6 in the year that grabbed the wild card spot. They beat Minnesota Vikings 10-9 to advance to the division round. Against Carolina, they dropped 31-0 at half time before scoring 24 unanswered points. Their comeback attempt failed and they failed to make the Super Bowl.

Rivalry

San Francisco 49ers

Recently, Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers began to develop the competition, starting with 49ers hiring coach Jim Harbaugh for the 2011 NFL season. Harbaugh has trained against Seahawks coach Pete Carroll before college at Stanford and Southern California, respectively. The 49ers won the first contest between coaches at the NFL level, then went on to win a close match at CenturyLink Field to eliminate the Seahawks from the playoff bout. 2012 brings new seasons and other Seahawks losses, a 7th week at NFL Network Thursday Night Football at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, as they dropped a 13-6 game in which offense failed to score and 49ers quarterback Alex Smith just enough to survive. Week 16 brings fever anxiety as Seahawks and 49ers prepare to deal primetime on NBC's Sunday Night Football. The Seahawks entered the game at 9-5, with a back-to-back explosion in which the team scored over 50 points in the game against Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals. Quickly, the Seahawks imposed their will with a 24-yard run of Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson's second quarterback passdown passes and a field goal-backing blocked making the Seahawks lead at half-time 28-6. The Seahawks continued in the second half, eventually winning 42-13 capped off by Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor hit on former tight end 49ers Vernon Davis. The 49ers, however, won the following week, locking the division title for the second season in a row. Since joining NFC West, Seahawks led the series 18-15 versus 49ers, including the playoffs. Colin Kaepernick and 49ers lost their first match in their 2013 season against their West NFC rivals 29-3, with the help of three touchdowns from Marshawn Lynch, with fans setting a new Guinness World Record for the loudest roar of the crowd at 136.6dB. However, the Seahawks were beaten 19-17 in their second 2013 game with 49ers at Candlestick Park. This is largely due to the late 51-yard game run by Frank Gore. The Seahawks have not won in San Francisco since 2008 until beating the 49ers in a convincing 19-3 fashion on Thanksgiving Day in 2014. In the 2013 NFC Championship Game, Seahawks beat 49er 23 through 17, thanks to Malcolm Smith's interception, which was tip by Richard Sherman. This ensures the Seahawks place into Super Bowl XLVIII.

Carolina Panthers

The Seahawks have developed competition with the Carolina Panthers. Both teams have played each other in the NFL playoffs three times: during the 2005 NFC Championship Competition, which Seattle won 34-14; Playoff Division Diagonal 2014, won by Seahawks 31-17; and Playoff Division NFC 2015, the Panthers won 31-24. The Seahawks lead the Panthers in the all-time 8-4 series.

Denver Broncos

From the 1980s to the reorganization of the league in 2002, the Denver Broncos were a major rival for the Seahawks. With John Elway, the Broncos are one of the best teams in the NFL, being 200-124-1 overall, and 32-18 against the Seahawks. Since 2002, Seattle has won two of the four interference meetings, and the team meets in Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2, 2014, in which the Seahawks won 43-8.

Headquarters and training camp

During the first ten seasons of Seahawks (1976-85), the team's headquarters were at Carillon Point on the shores of Lake Washington. The summer training camp was originally held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, southwest of Spokane. When the team's new headquarters throughout the city in Kirkland was completed in 1986, Seahawks held home training camps for the next eleven seasons (1986-96), living in an adjacent Northwest College dorm. In Dennis Erickson's third season as head coach, the team returned to the hotter and more isolated Cheney in 1997, where they held training camps until 2006. In 2007, the training camp returned to their Kirkland facility, due to a scheduled China Bowl match then canceled. In 2008, Seahawks organized the first three-week camp in Kirkland, then moved to the new 19-acre Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) on August 18 for the final week of the training camp, where the team has held a training camp they have since. The new facility, adjacent to Lake Washington in Renton, has four full-sized practice areas: three outdoor grasses and one indoor FieldTurf.

Logo and uniform

When Seahawks debuted in 1976, the team logo was the head of the royal blue osprey and green forests combined under the Northwest Coast art. Helmets and silver pants while home uniforms are royal blue with white, blue, and green stripes. The street uniform is white with blue and green stripes. Black shoes were used for the first four seasons, one of the few NFL teams in the late 1970s. They later changed to white shoes in 1980.

In 1983, coinciding with the arrival of Chuck Knox as head coach, the uniforms were slightly renewed. Striping on the arm now incorporated the Seahawks logo, and the TV number moved to the shoulder. The mask mask layer changes from ash to blue. Also, the socks are solid blue at the top, and white at the bottom. In the 1985 season, the team wore the 10th Anniversary patch on the right side of their pants. It has the Seahawks logo darting through the number 10. Beginning in the 1989 NFL season, the shirts are no longer sand-knit. In 1994, the year of the 75th Anniversary of the NFL, the Seahawks changed their numbering style to something more suitable for the team; Block Pro from then until 2001. That same year, Seahawks wore vintage jersey for a chosen game that resembled the 1976-82 uniform. However, the helmet face mask remains blue. The logos are also stitched instead of printed on the screen. In 2000, the rookie year of Shaun Alexander and the last Cortez Kennedy, Seattle Seahawks celebrated their 25th anniversary; logo worn on the top left chest of the shirt. In 2001, Seahawks switched to a new Reebok uniform system with their current uniforms, but it will be the last in this uniform after the season ends. Previously, team uniforms were made by Wilson, Wilson/Staff, Russell Athletic, Athletic Logo, and Puma.

On March 1, 2002, to coincide with the team moving to the NFC as well as the opening of the Seahawks Stadium (which will later be renamed Qwest Field, then CenturyLink Field), both the logo and the uniform were greatly redesigned. The Wordmark was designed by Mark Verlander and the logo was designed by the design team inside the NFL Properties company. The colors were modified into lighter "Seahawks Blue", the darker "Seahawks Navy" and lime green piping. The helmets were also converted from silver to a lighter "Seahawks Blue" color after a fan poll was conducted. Silver will not be seen again until 2012. Logo artwork is also subtly altered, with curved eyebrows and pupils facing forward showing more aggressive birds. Initially, the team had planned to wear silver helmets at home and blue helmets on the road, but because the NFL rules prohibit the use of multiple helmets, the team held a fan poll to decide what color helmet to wear. The team typically wears all-blue attire at home and all white on the road since 2003, but at the end of the 2009 season, the Seahawks wore a blue-pants uniform. The blue Jersey and white combo pants have been worn for just one regular season game, the 2005 season opener at Jacksonville Jaguars, while the white jerseys and blue pants combination have not been worn regularly since the end of the 2002 season, with the exception of the end of the 2009 season. In 2009, Seahawks once again wearing a white uniform and a combination of blue pants for a street match against Minnesota (November 22), St. Louis (November 29), Houston (December 13) and Green Bay (27 December).

The Seahawks wore their home blue jerseys during Super Bowl XL despite being designated as visitors, as the Pittsburgh Steelers, the designated host team, elected to wear their white shirts.

Since Oakland Raiders wore their white jerseys at home for the first time in a game against the San Diego Chargers on September 28, 2008, Seahawks is currently the only NFL team that never wore their white shirts at home.

On September 27, 2009, Seahawks wore a lime green shirt for the first time, paired with new blue navy blue pants in a match against the Chicago Bears. The shirt fits their new sister team, Seattle Sounders FC expansion of Major League Soccer wearing a green T-shirt with blue pants. On December 6, 2009, Seahawks wore a blue Seahawks jersey with new blue navy blue for the first time, in a match against the San Francisco 49ers. Seahawks did the same combo two weeks later against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and two weeks after that in the regular 2009 season finals against Tennessee Titans. In December 2009, coach Jim Mora announced that the new lime green shirt had retired because the team did not win in it, as he prefers home T-shirts, and added that the home jersey is a better match for navy trousers. In the same press conference, he declared that the new navy pants "feel better" on the player as opposed to the Seahawks blue pants. For the 2010 season, Seattle returns to all traditional "Blue Seahawks" at home and all white on the road.

On April 3, 2012, Nike, which took over as the official uniform supplier for the league of Reebok, unveiled a new uniform design and logo for Seahawks for the 2012 season. The new design incorporates a new accent color, "Wolf Gray", and the main colors are " College Navy "and" Action Green ". The uniform combines "feather trim", several feathers on the crown of a helmet, twelve feathers printed on the neck and under each pants legs to represent "The 12th Man", referring to the team's fans. The Seahawks have three different jersey colors: navy blue, white, and alternate gray jersey. The Seahawks will have three different pants: sea blue with green feathers, gray with dark blue feathers, and white with a navy blue fur. Their new logo replaces Blue Seahawk with a gray wolf. Overall, there are nine (9) different possible uniform combinations.

The Seahawks wore their home Nike blue jersey for their first regular season game on September 16, 2012 against the Dallas Cowboys. The Marshawn Lynch uniform used in the game is stored in Pro Football Hall of Fame. On September 9, 2012, the Seahawks wore Nike's white uniform for their first regular season game against the Arizona Cardinals; on October 14, 2012, with the Carolina Panthers wearing white clothing at home, they wore blue shirts with gray pants (and will do it again against Miami Dolphins seven weeks later); and on December 16, 2012, they wore Alternative Wolf Gray T-shirts for the first time against Buffalo Bills.

Season and overall note

By the end of the 2017 season, Seattle Seahawks have competed in 42 NFL seasons, dating back to their 1976 expansion years. The team has set a 334-323-1 record (16-15 in the playoffs) for a. 508 percentage of victory (.516 in playoffs). Seattle has reached the playoffs in 16 separate seasons, including in the 2005 season when they lost the Super Bowl XL to Pittsburgh Steelers, the 2013 season when they beat the Denver Broncos to win the Super Bowl XLVIII, and the 2014 season when they lost the Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots. In the 2010 season, Seahawks became the first team in NFL history to gain a place in the playoffs with a record loss (7-9,.438) in a full season; this is based on winning division. The Seahawks will continue to defeat the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round, becoming the first team to ever win a record-breaking playoff game. Until Sunday 7 seasons 2016, Seahawks never recorded matches tied up in their history.

The 12th man

The 12th person (also known as 12s) refers to fan support from Seahawks. The team's first home stadium, Kingdome, is one of the harshest and most disturbing neighborhoods in the NFL. Opponents are known to practice with rock music vigorously to prepare the very high decibel levels that are generated on the game at Kingdome.

In 2002, Seahawks started playing in what is now called CenturyLink Field. Every regular season and playoff games at CenturyLink Field since the second week of the 2003 season have been played before the sellout crowd. Like the previous Kingdome, CenturyLink Field is one of the loudest stadiums in the league. The partial roof of the stadium and the seating deck trap and amplify the noise and reflect back into the field. This noise has caused problems for the opposing team, causing them to make many false initial penalties. From 2002 to 2012, there were 143 fake early penalties on the visitors' team in Seattle, second only to Minnesota Vikings.

Seahawks' fans have twice set the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd vote at the sporting event, first on 15 September 2013, registering 136.6 dB during the game against the San Francisco 49ers and again on December 2, 2013, during Monday Night Football match against Saints New Orleans, with a roar of 137.6dB. On September 29, 2014, a record 142.2 dB was held at Arrowhead Stadium by Kansas City Head fans.

Before kickoff every home game, Seahawks salute their fans by lifting the giant # 12 flag at the south end of the stadium. Current and former players, coaches, local celebrities, prominent fans, Seattle-area athletes, and current owner Paul Allen have raised the flag. Previously, Seahawks retired with jersey # 12 on December 15, 1984 as a tribute to their fans. Before their Super Bowl victory, Seahawks ran into the field under the banner of Man 12 giants.

In September 1990, Texas A & amp; M filed, and then granted, a trademark application for the term "12th Man", based on the persistent usage of this term since the 1920s. In January 2006, Texas A & amp; M filed suit against Seattle Seahawks to protect trademarks and in May 2006, disputes were settled out of court. Under the agreement, which expires in 2016, Texas A & amp; M licenses Seahawks to continue using this phrase, in exchange for license fees, public acknowledgment of A & amp; M while using the term, restrictions on the use of a period of up to seven states in the Northwest United States, and a ban on the sale of "12th Man" goods. After the agreement expires, Seahawks are allowed to continue using the number "12" but are no longer allowed to use the phrase "12 Man". In August 2015, Seahawks decided to drop their mark from the term "12 Man" and shifted towards referring to their fans as "12" instead.

Tradition

Beginning in the 1998 season, Blitz has become the official Seahawks mascot. In the 2003 and 2004 seasons, a hawk named Faith would fly around the stadium just before the team came out of the tunnel. However, due to its relatively small size and inability to be trained to lead the team out of the tunnel, Faith was replaced by a conqueror hawk named Taima before the start of the 2005 season. Taima began leading the team out of the tunnel in September 2006. Beginning in 2004, Seahawks introduced a drum line they are, Blue Thunder. The group plays in every home game as well as over 100 events in the Seattle community.

Radio and television

Starting in 2017, the main Seahawks station is KIRO (AM) 710 kHz - KIRO-FM 97.3 MHz . Games are heard in 47 stations in five western and Canadian states. Microsoft holds the naming rights for broadcast for their web search engine under the moniker "Bing Radio Network". The current broadcasters are former Seahawks player Steve Raible (who is a team color commentator from 1982 to 2003) and Warren Moon. The regular season pair Raible-Moon has been together since 2004 (during Moon's pre-season work for local television broadcasts so color comments are shared between former Seahawks Paul Moyer, Sam Adkins, and Brock Huard). Pete Gross, who called the game from 1976 until just days before his death from cancer in 1992, is a member of the Ring of Honor team. Other past broadcasters include Steve Thomas from 1992 to 1997, Lee Hamilton (also known as "Hacksaw") from 1998 to 1999, and Brian Davis from 2000 to 2003.

The pre-season games were not shown on the national network produced by Seahawks Broadcasting and broadcast by KING-TV, channel 5 (and, in 2008, also at KONG-TV's brother station since KING, an NBC affiliate, committed to the Summer Olympics in China). Seahawks Broadcasting is a production and syndication unit of Emmy Award Winning in Seattle Seahawks. Curt Menefee (the host of Fox NFL Sunday) has been the voice of Seahawks TV since the pre-season of 2009. Since the 2012 season, KCPQ-TV, which airs most of Seahawks regular season games (as a Seattle-Tacoma ), is a television partner for the team and has replaced KING 5 as a broadcaster for pre-season games, while simulcast broadcasts of all Seahawks games on ESPN's Monday Night Football or NFL Network Thursday Night Football airs on KONG-TV or KZJO. Additionally, any Saturday or Sunday afternoon game broadcast by CBS (with Seahawks being opposed to AFC) will be broadcast on local CBS affiliate KIRO-TV.
