Split (gymnastics) - Wikipedia

A split (usually referred to as split or split ) is the physical position in which the legs are aligned with one another and extended in the opposite direction. The split is generally done in various athletic activities, including dance, skating, gymnastics, kontorsi, synchronized pools, cheerleaders, and yoga. Someone who has taken a split position is said to be "split" or "split".

When executing the split, the lines defined by the inner thighs of the feet form an angle of about 180 degrees. This large angle is significantly stretched, and thus shows excellent flexibility of the hamstring and iliopsoas muscles. As a result, splits are often used as stretching exercises for heating and increasing flexibility of the leg muscles. The split that goes beyond 180 ° is called oversplit.

Variations

There are two common forms of disunity:

  • Separation of the side is done by stretching the legs to the left and right of the torso. The split sides are called straddle split (or middle split ) in dance and yoga, and can be called as Chinese split in martial arts. Other names for side-sharing are split box and split center .
  • The front division is done by moving one foot forward, and the other to the back of the torso. In the dance, the front split is named according to the extended leg forward (for example, the right leg is extended forwards when executing the right split ). In yoga, the front split is known as Hanumanasana. The front division requires a hyper-extension of the iliofemoral ligament, otherwise the majority of the range of motion should be from the hip joint.

There are many variations of form and performance of the split, including:

  • Oversplit, where the angle between the legs exceeds 180 degrees.
  • A suspended separation, where the body is static and supported only by the foot.
  • Split leap or split jump is a split that starts after jumping or jumping, respectively, while still in the air. In figure skating, split jumps are sometimes called Russian jumps . They can be done as an exercise.
  • Stand split or vertical split, where the foot line is oriented vertically either side or forward. It can also be an oversplit and a front edge with the back arching backwards, sometimes called the layout.
  • Swinging is done by transitioning from the front division to the division side, then to the different front.
  • The martial arts split is a front split where the hind legs are turned so that the inside end of the foot rests on the ground. This is more commonly called "half-division".

Problems

A common problem encountered during side cleavage is pain in the hip joint. Usually, the reason for this is that the split is done incorrectly (the pelvis may need to be tilted forward). Another common problem encountered during disunity (both front and side) is pain in the knee.

Popular culture

Many people lack the flexibility needed to split and thus perceive disunity to be uncomfortable or even painful. Because of this widespread view, division arose in slapstick, schadenfreude, and other forms of entertainment.
