Sun Drop , also marketed as Sundrop , is a citrus flavored soda produced by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. It has a yellowish green color given by Tartrazine. Among soft drinks, known for their high caffeine content (63 mg per 12 oz, 9 mg higher than 12 ounces of Mountain Dew, but not as much as Vault with 70.5 mg per 12 oz). Orange juice is an ingredient in the beverage, and the residual slurry of orange juice provides some flavor and appearance of soft drinks.

History
Sun Drop was developed in Missouri, by Charles Lazier, a beverage concentrate salesman. While traveling around the city in a family car, Lazier quickly wrote down a recipe for a new soft drink on a small piece of paper she handed over to her son, Charles Jr. The younger Lazier worked as a lab technician at his father's factory, and soon began working on the formula. Two years later, Sun Drop Cola debuted at the American Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages Conference in Washington, D.C. The patented Sun Drop Formula on April 15, 1930.
Drinks are marketed in several southern states with names such as "Sundrop Golden Cola" or "Golden Girl Cola." This brand was acquired and standardized by Crush International in 1970. Crush International was purchased by Procter & amp; Gamble in 1980, which sold soft drink ownership to Cadbury Schweppes plc in 1989. Cadbury Schweppes plc was rejuvenated in 2008, with its drinks unit being Dr Pepper Snapple Group, which currently produces Sun Drop.
Prior to selling to Cadbury Schweppes, Procter & amp; Gamble introduced several new Sun Drop flavors in 1985, including the re-formulated Diet Sun Drop brand using aspartame instead of saccharin. The third brand, Cherry-Lemon Sun Drop, was introduced in the same year. In February 2002, the brand introduced Caffeine-Free Sun Drop to its portfolio after the company received many requests from loyal consumers for the caffeine-free version of their favorite orange soft drink. The Cherry Lemon Sun Drop diet variant was introduced in 2014.
Sun Drop has maintained its popularity in many parts of the southern United States, especially in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and parts of the Midwest, including Wisconsin and Western Minnesota. Similar to other regional beverages with cult followers, fans outside the bottling area have been known to pay large sums to deliver drinks to them. The family has sent him to US troops serving in Afghanistan.
Sun Drop is sometimes used as a mixer for drinks with liquor.
Sun Drop is an official drink of the nationally recognized "Fancy Farm Picnic" at Fancy Farm, Kentucky.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, drink was promoted in South America by NASCAR Winston Cup racer Dale Earnhardt.
Carolina Beverage Corp. purchased Sun Drop Bottling Co. from Concord effective December 1, 2016. Concord plant, North Carolina is closed.

Expansion
Dr Pepper Snapple Group distributes Sun Drop nationwide starting in 2011, with a new campaign featuring updated websites, Facebook pages, and promotional deals with MTV. Sun Drop's marketing plan is a component of Dr. Pepper Snapple's efforts to expand sales of non-cola sodas and target PepsiCo brand soft drinkers at Mountain Dew in the United States. The Sun Drop expansion comes a few months after Coca-Cola brought Mello Yello's high-caffeinated orange drink nationally.
Dr. Pepper Snapple signed an agreement with MTV marketing agency, Scratch. Scratch will develop new Sun Drop advertisements and branding, including new designs for cans. MTV will also feature Sun Drop in the programming, including the reality series The Real World .
Soft drinks are the main sponsor for race car racer Ryan Hunter-Reay in the IndyCar Series for Andretti Autosport from 2011 to 2013.

- Lemerry Sundrop Cherry Diet
Sun Drop packaged in glass bottles is usually sweetened with sugar, instead of corn syrup, giving a slightly different flavor.
