WrestleMania 32 is a thirty-two-year professional WrestleMania wrestling-professional wrestling (PPV) wrestling event and WWE Network event produced by WWE. It happened on April 3, 2016, at AT & amp; T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Twelve games are contested at the event (including three games at the pre-show). Four games are specifically regarded as marquee attractions. In the main event, Roman Reigns defeated Triple H to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, while Shane McMahon (in his first game since 2009) lost to The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell match. Brock Lesnar defeated Dean Ambrose in No Holds Barred Street Fight, and Charlotte won the recently installed WWE Women Championship (which replaces the retired Divas Championship) in three threat matches over Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. The event is also famous for having the shortest WrestleMania match ever seen, when The Rock defeated Erick Rowan, in an impromptu game, an unannounced performance from John Cena, and Andrà © à the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which included surprise participation from Shaquille NBA legend O'Neal and won by NXT call-up Baron Corbin in the debut of the main list.
According to WWE, WrestleMania 32 set some records for the company; including gross income of $ 17.3 million and a claimed attendance record of 101,763. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer denied WWE attendance, claiming a 93,730 attendance which is still a WWE record. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon later acknowledged that the attendance records were "unpaid 101,000" for including "ticket officers and recipients and all of that".
Despite the commercial success, critics gave mixed reviews for WrestleMania 32 and rated it worse than NXT TakeOver: The Dallas WWE event was held two days earlier. The title of the main event drew criticism and also resulted in a negative and angry audience reaction.

WrestleMania is considered the main event of WWE, which has been described as a Super Bowl sports entertainment.
The event is the third WrestleMania to be held in the state of Texas, after 2001 and 2009, and the first taking place in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. Ticket sales take place on November 6, 2015, with individual tickets costing $ 18 to $ 2,360. On October 13, 2015, travel packages with accommodation ranging from $ 575 to $ 6,625 per person were sold. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that WrestleMania 32 had broken the WWE record for most of the tickets sold with at least 84,000 tickets sold. Forbes speculates that WrestleMania 32 can break the WWE 93,173 attendance record at WrestleMania III at Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. The record stands as the highest attendance for any indoor event until the NBA All-Star Game 2010, which is also held at AT & T Stadium, drew 108,713. However, Dave Meltzer reported that the actual WWE attendance record prior to WrestleMania 32 was 1992 SummerSlam 79.127, and that the actual presence of WrestleMania III was about 78,000.
The five official theme songs for the show are "My House" (by Flo Rida), "Hello Friday" (by Flo Rida featuring Jason Derulo), "Hail to the King" (by Avenged Sevenfold), "Sympathy for the Devil" (by MotÃÆ'à ¶rhead), and "Oh No" (by Goodbye June). On March 21, 2016, it was announced that American women's group Fifth Harmony will perform "America the Beautiful" during WrestleMania pre-show.
WWE has been hobbled by real life injuries to wrestlers on the list, making them unable to wrestle at WrestleMania 32. The list of injured at the time included John Cena, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Neville, and Luke Harper. Meanwhile, Sting, Nikki Bella, and Tyson Kidd suffered a neck injury, with Kidd barely able to avoid paralysis or death and Sting was forced to retire. Daniel Bryan was also forced to retire due to a severe concussion. David Shoemaker, writing for ESPN, explains that "it seems like the talent left behind from the game list could sell more tickets than it does today." Shoemaker also theorized the possible reasons for his first injury "an exhausting WWE schedule", and both "travel, fatigue, lack of offseason".
In March 2016, CNET wrote that WrestleMania 32 would see the culmination of "the greatest story in WWE", which "built the Roman Government as the most popular babyface". WWE's efforts to get the "recognition" government of names like Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, Steve Austin, The Rock and John Cena met the "toughest opponents" in the wrestling rink who started a "fan rebellion" against WWE's support of Reign, with more fans choose Dean Ambrose instead. COED agrees that Reigns, which WWE thinks "has great star power and appeal", was "rudely rejected" by ridicule by WWE audiences. To counter this trend, WWE has taken steps including silencing the crowd and emitting tin cheers during Reigns appearance in 2016. The A.V. Club commented that "WWE has a serious Roman Reigns problem", because "basically no one wants to see the Roman Government in the main event" of WrestleMania.
Storylines
The card contains twelve matches generated from the storyline written with the results specified by WWE. Storylines are produced on WWE weekly television shows, Raw and SmackDown .
The storyline leading to WrestleMania 32 is not well received by critics. Jason Powell of Pro Wrestling Dot Net regrets that "build to WrestleMania has been a creative mess", and that the list of WWE injuries does not condone "messy bookings or storylines with big holes and log loopholes". Jeff Hamlin of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter criticized, "There is no momentum for WrestleMania at all This event sells itself purely on its brand name". Ben Tucker of Pro Wrestling Torch wrote, "Not since WrestleMania 13 has WWE's Super Bowl coming together in a strange fashion, with WWE making some of the most scratching decisions I've ever seen in ages". Kyle Fowle from The A.V. Club states that "WWE boats headed directly to rocks", and in particular "[WWE] World Championships are a disaster".

On March 21st episode Raw , during Jericho's match with Fandango, Styles distracts Jericho by shouting "Y2Jackass" to him, but Jericho wins the game despite a distraction. The style then challenged Jericho to a match in Jericho's rejected WrestleMania, stating that he preferred to sit with the crowds at WrestleMania rather than face him. On March 28th episode of Raw , during Jericho's match with Zack Ryder, Styles once again distracts Jericho by shouting "Y2Jackass" with the audience while on the ringside, causing Ryder to defeat Jericho. The actual pay-per-view opens with seven ladder matches for the Intercontinental Championship. Stardust used a black staircase with yellow spots in honor of his father, Dusty Rhodes, but the ladder was thrown away by Kevin Owens. Mid-game, Dolph Ziggler executes a series of superkicks, while Zack Ryder performs Elbro Drop on the ladder to The Miz. In the end, Owens slashed Zigler from the ladder, then caused Sin How to fall from the stairs to the Stardust, lying on a bridged ladder between the apron ring and the barricade. Owen's rival, Sami Zayn, took Owens half and half to the stairs, and in turn was paralyzed by Miz. The premature celebration by Miz allows Ryder to push him off the ladder and take the belt to win the game. Post-match, Ryder's father joins Ryder in the ring for a celebration.
Next, Chris Jericho picks up AJ Styles. After an evenly contested match (which saw Gaya kick out of the Jericho Codebreaker, and Jericho kicked out of the Styles' Styles Clash), Jericho hid behind the referee and fought the Phenomenal Under Arms down to the air Codebreaker to score a pinfall win.
WWE Tag Team Champions New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods) (who came in with out of the big Booty-O "cereal box" while wearing Dragon Ball Z-inspired clothing) then wrestling with the League of Nations (Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and Rusev) in a tag team match of six men, with League team mate King Barrett at ringside. After Ambrose threw a lot of seats in the ring, Lesnar tried F5 but Ambrose retaliated and executed Dirty Deeds into the pile of seats for the fall close. After that, Ambrose carried a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire to finish Lesnar, but Lesnar gave German suport to Ambrose, and executed F5 in the pile of seats to win the match. After that, Lesnar sprayed Ambrose with Fire Extinguisher.
After 2016 the WWE Hall of Fame class has been presented, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks (who have his cousin and new WWE Hall of Fame Snoop Dogg featuring the theme of his entry while accompanying him to the ring) grapple with Triple Match threats. Originally promoted as for the Diva Charlotte WWE Championships, the match will precisely determine the new WWE Women Champion because the Divas title will be retired. The end saw Lynch execute a fisherman from the top of the rope at Charlotte, who rolled to the floor. The bank then implements Bank Statement on Lynch but Charlotte throws Banks out of the ring. Charlotte implements the Eight-Leglock Image in Lynch while Ric Flair (Charlotte's father and manager) prevents the Bank from intervening. Lynch submitted, awarding the WWE Princess title and to Charlotte.
The Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Shane McMahon is next. If Shane wins, he will control Raw , while Undertaker will be banned from wrestling in WrestleManias in the future. McMahon then puts the trash can in front of Undertaker's chest and does the Coast-to-Coast approaching the fall. Undertaker handled McMahon through the cell side, and both fought on the floor around the ringside. After Undertaker replied to Sleeper Hold by slamming McMahon through the broadcasting table, McMahon hit Undertaker with a TV monitor and metal toolbox to keep him down, and placed it on another broadcasting table. McMahon then climbed onto the cell and tried Leap of Faith into the Undertaker, which moved, causing McMahon to fall through the broadcasting table. Although McMahon gestures to Undertaker to "take him", he has no more power to fight. Undertaker executes Tombstone Piledriver to win the match. McMahon was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher (while showing his thumb toward the crowd) while Undertaker walked and smiled.
Next is AndrÃÆ'à © the Giant Memorial Battle Royal which sees several surprise arrivals in the match, including the Dallas Diamond Page and Tatanka legends, NXT call-up Baron Corbin makes the debut of the main list and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal as a celebrity entry. Both O'Neal and Big Show perform double chokeslam on Kane to start and other wrestlers are then discarded (though not eliminated) by O'Neal and Show. After Fandango and Damien Sandow were eliminated by Show and O'Neal respectively, O'Neal and the Show fought with the rope, where the other participants eliminated them both. In the end, Corbin wins the match with the last of getting rid of Kane.
The Rock then made a huge entrance, which included Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and Rock using a flamethrower to make a big sign by saying its name was brightly lit. Rock announced that WrestleMania 32 had set an all-time attendance record with 101,763, when he was confronted by the Wyatt Family. After some verbal commute, Rock (who has his ring under his street clothes) challenges them to the match. Wyatt's family member Erick Rowan accepted the challenge and was quickly defeated following Rock Bottom. WWE recognizes the length of a six-second game, though another source reports seven seconds. It set a new WrestleMania record for the shortest match, beating the previous record (11 seconds) set by Kane and Chavo Guererro's matches at WrestleMania XXIV. Angered by this quick victory, the entire Wyatt Family then surrounded Rock when surprisingly John Cena appeared and helped Rock clean the Wyatts ring. The segment ends when Rock and Cena climb the road and Rock hugs his family before lifting Cena's arm.
Main events
In the main event, Triple H defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. The champion was introduced by his costumed wife Stephanie McMahon, who in the Game of Thrones style who insulted the audience for their "miserable life" and ordered all to bow to Triple H, which then made her grand entrance followed by Stephanie and a group of masked men dressed in black with a replica world title belt. After that, Reigns, the challenger, walks down the driveway to the ring.
After the reign took over the match, Stephanie distracted the referee, allowing Triple H to do a low blow and nose the Reigns target. The government did Spear through barricades in Triple H. Triple H targeted as 'Reigns' arm but Reigns restored and execute another Spear, only for Stephanie to pull the referee out of the ring, emptying pinfall. Stephanie argued with the referee, and was accidentally hit by the Spear of Reigns. Triple H executes Pedigree on Reigns for the approaching autumn. Stephanie then hands over Triple H with her trademark, but the referee warns her that she will be disqualified if she uses it. Reigns executed two Superman Punches in Triple H, dodging sledgehammer shots, and executed the third spear to win the championship for the third time. Various kinds of fireworks celebration was released.
Reception
As predicted by some critics before the show, Reigns (despite playing a heroic character) was booed by the WrestleMania crowd during the main event and when the show went off with him as champion, with drawing angry reactions. To appease angry people, WWE plays Triple H to the audience after the broadcast is over. The main event also sees people who are not interested in singing some wrestlers who are not involved in a match or storyline: Sami Zayn, Bayley, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Several reports have emerged from WWE that turned off the microphone of the crowd at WrestleMania during and after the main event when the Government was being ridiculed.
Reportedly, some participants were not happy about the entrance to AT & T Stadium; which he described as long and messy. On post-WrestleMania Raw , it was also held in Dallas but a day later, Vince McMahon asked the audience directly what they thought about WrestleMania 32. The crowd responded with derision and then scorned louder when Vince mentioned Reigns as the champion new world.
Attendance and revenue
On the day of the event, WWE claims the presence of 101,763 in AT & amp; T Stadium, which surpassed the previously claimed 93,173 WWE records for WrestleMania III in 1987. Also, WWE reported the $ 17.3 million bestselling event for WWE's highest-grossing live event, and exceeded the previous year's $ 12.6 million. However, journalist Dave Meltzer reported 93,730 as "the usual as-usual attendance for the show" with a total of 97,769 people in the stadium if one includes stadium personnel, WWE personnel, etc. Meltzer hooked in exaggeration because WWE did not want to let their fans down after WWE promoted "from scratch attract 100,000 people" to WrestleMania 32. Figures 93.730 will remain WWE's highest event, according to Meltzer, the previous record is SummerSlam 1992 event at 79.127, while WrestleMania III doing "over 78,000". Meanwhile, Meltzer supports the best-selling figure as "either accurate or very close".
In a conference call in February 2017, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon said, "We are proud to set a record of our attendance of over 100,000, which includes, by the way, the officers and ticket takers and all of that. Not 101,000 paid, but even so, that is a record for us. "
Reviews
WrestleMania 32 received mixed reactions from critics, who criticized the event for its long decisions and questionable decisions. Critics reviewing WrestleMania 32 and WWE NXT TakeOver: The Dallas show that took place two days earlier concluded that the NXT show was a very professional "professional wrestling" even though WrestleMania had more "spectacle"; also the NXT match (which debuted) Shinsuke Nakamura versus Sami Zayn is hailed as better than any moment or game from WrestleMania 32.
Troy L. Smith of
Paul Tamburro of CraveOnline writes that the event was characterized by "an inexplicable ordering decision that actively undermines all the development of the storyline", adding that "WWE routinely bends its fans by completing less exciting matches than expected". He denounced the HHH-Reigns main event as "a boring and slow-running game" and described the babyface reign impulse as "unreasonable" and "an embarrassing trial attempt for the company," with "the crowd still not given a reason to feel anything for people beyond poisonous ambivalence or hatred ". Tamburro is also critical of Shane McMahon-Undertaker's match, which he describes as "absolutely useless", and about booking Dean Ambrose, writes that "he lost to Lesnar in a disappointing way of putting great value". He criticizes more because the company relies too heavily on past stars, writes that "while applying these big names is fun, it still happens to the loss of the current talent on the list". Instead, Tamburro praised the Women's Championship game, calling it a "victory", and described Zack Ryder's unexpected victory as "a pleasant moment".
James Caldwell of Pro Wrestling Torch described this event as a "weird show". He rated the HHH-Reigns game 1.5 stars out of 5, questioning why "anyone would want to sit through this during the main event" and criticize the "ego of the McMahon family" for booking matches. Caldwell went on to describe the Government as "a pet project to be laughed out of this place in any other era". Caldwell chose not to judge Hell in a Cell match, describing it as a "strange deal" with "Shane McMahon, a non-wrestler against Undertaker in one of Wester's last games from Taker". The women's title game was rated 3 stars, "strong" apart from the finish, which puzzled Caldwell when it seemed "Mania is not a big enough event to pay Flair who repeats interference with a conquered face".
Nolan Howell of Canoe Sports described the show as "very strange, a strange ordering order and nothing seems to be settled at all, apart from the sudden Shane vs Undertaker story that can be tied up anytime". Howell wrote that while "the quality of the game is fine", the show was "spectacle without much substance". He described the second half of the show as a "creative train wreck", adding that "WWE can not do things right". Howell noted that when Reigns won the main event, "the mics audience [suspicious] did not take too much noise for the second or third time during the" game. Finally, Howell described the Women's Championship as a match that night.
Dave Scherer of the Pro Wrestling Insider commented on the response that WrestleMania was "superb", against that "unless you place the skeleton in place for the future, you will reach the point where most of your assets are gone and you will in a barren place ". It is a reference that "finished and character development (or lack thereof)" resulted in older stars (Rock, Austin, Foley, Michaels and Jericho) shining at the expense of new talent (Styles, The New Day, The League of Nations, and Wyatt's Family ). Scherer also criticized Vince McMahon for ignoring the "clear decree" of fans against Roman Government as world champion.
Scott Keith of Sporting News wrote that WrestleMania 32 "ended up working hard for five hours (seven hours with pregame show) and one of the worst WrestleManias when all was said and done". He writes that "Roman Reigns once again shows that he is not a top star even though Triple H does his best to get a 'classic' game from him, and Shane-Undertaker's match ends up being a 30-minute snoozese instead of the chaotic mess that everyone wants ". Keith praised the Women's Championship and Zack Ryder's game for his "WrestleMania moment".
Aaron Oster of Rolling Stone wrote that "fans watched a roller-coaster ride carrying the WWE Universe from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Before looking at the bad, it's good to point out that there are also a lot of good ones." However, Oster feels that while WrestleMania 31 tries to "serve disgruntled fans", WrestleMania 32 "feels like a six-hour effort to eliminate the same demo", especially the end of the show, which causes fans to feel "betrayed" after the "dream end" at WrestleMania XXX and 31.
In the Wrestling Observer 2016 award, WrestleMania 32 was voted "The Most Wrestling Show" this year.
Aftermath
Although Shane McMahon failed to control Raw with a loss to the Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, he was given control over the next four episodes of Raw also post-WrestleMania. The post-WrestleMania Raw on April 4 starts with Vince McMahon firing a crazy crowd, and boasting how no one has held him since he received the lockbox. Shane McMahon interrupted the handshake with Vince, then thanked the fans. Shane's jealousy supposedly outwitted him with the support of a strong fan, Vince allowed Shane to run Raw that night, as Vince (thinking that Shane would produce a "catastrophe") wanted to show the world how "silly" it would be.
