ISIS support and capture

Young and Dakhlalla begin dating one another in November 2014. In March 2015, as stated in a document submitted in federal court, Young announced that he had converted to Islam and began wearing Islamic clothes, which included a veil and niqab veil (often described in the media as "burqa"). Young and Dakhlalla take part in the marriage ceremony on June 6, 2015. They have never been involved in civil marriage. Young previously had no record of frequent attendance at the mosque or at the Muslim Students Association in Mississippi State.

Beginning in May 2015, Young and Dakhlalla made a statement in social media supporting ISIS. An FBI agent posing as a member of the group and Young tells him that while their family does not support ISIS, he and Dakhlalla do and can provide support. Prosecutors say Young is the leader of the plot; he hopes to serve as a member of medical personnel while Dakhlalla wants to engage in combat. Both have no previous offenses.

They were arrested on August 8 at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport near Columbus, Mississippi; they have a schedule in Delta Air Lines to fly to Istanbul, Turkey via Atlanta and Amsterdam. They should meet their recruiting candidate at the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque) in Istanbul.

Both, as preliminary prisoners, are housed in prisons in Oxford, Mississippi. Judge S. Allan Alexander chose not to grant them a guarantee because of the belief that both may still want to cause terrorist acts.

On March 13, 2016, Dakhlalla pleaded guilty to a violation of "conspiring to provide material support" to terrorist organizations; in August 2016, US District Judge Sharion Aycock gave him eight years in prison and 15 years of supervised release. He fully cooperates with the investigators â € <â €

On March 30, 2016, Young pleaded guilty to the same offense that Dakhlalla pleaded guilty to, did so in Aberdeen, the Mississippi federal court. He was sentenced by Aycock to 12 years in federal prison on August 11, 2016. After prison sentence, Young will have 15 years probation. Aycock ordered that, during probation, law enforcement authorities could search Young's electronic device to check whether he was doing terrorist-related duties on the internet.
